Finding new, locally owned restaurants to try out as a family is one of our favorite ways to spend time together. We know that it can be difficult to find the right places to eat as a family, as everyone has different tastes and preferences. Columbus boasts such a wide variety of amazing and delicious restaurants, so many that it seems almost impossible to try them all.
We put together a round up of our top five favorite restaurants in Columbus that the whole family can enjoy!
Mezzo Dublin
Located in stunning historic Dublin, Mezzo offers classically inspired Italian cuisine in a fun and modern environment! They have all of the Italian favorites, from spaghetti to alfredo to calamari to risotto, so every member of your family is sure to find something they enjoy. They also offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free so anyone can enjoy a meal at Mezzo!
Schmidt’s Sausage Haus and Restaurant
If you spend a day in German Village with the family, Schmidt’s is a must for lunch or dinner. Located in an area where there’s so much to do and see (from the park to the Book Loft), Schmidt’s offers delicious, traditional German-inspired dishes. If you have some picker eaters in the family, they also offer classics like hamburgers and french fries. But your whole family will be able to agree on one thing – their famous Cream Puffs Desserts are absolutely delicious!
Hot Chicken Takeover
Hot Chicken Takeover is a true Columbus staple with locations in Easton, Clintonville, and the North Market. This restaurant took over the Columbus area a few years ago, and it’s easy to see why – their chicken is impossible to resist! Their mission is to bring the Nashville chicken experience right here to Columbus. If you’re not a huge fan of spice, they have spice levels that will suit anyone. They also offer their Lil’ Chicken kids portion meals! And don’t forget their classic sides!
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream
While this isn’t a place you can go for a whole meal, we can guarantee that your kids will be a fan! Jeni’s isn’t just Columbus famous, they are famous throughout the country for their elevated and eclectic flavors and homemade waffle cone pieces served with every scoop. Don’t worry if you’re not adventurous when it comes to your ice cream flavors, they still have classic flavors like chocolate, peanut butter, and mint chocolate chip!
You can find Jeni’s all over Columbus, from Dublin to Easton, to the Short North Arts District
Fox in the Snow Cafe
If you are looking for a small bite to eat on a weekend morning, you have to stop into Fox in the Snow Cafe. They have locations in New Albany, German Village, and Downtown Columbus. They serve amazing coffee drinks and mouthwatering pastries that they make from scratch. Their egg sandwich has been voted “Best in Columbus” and their chocolate chip cookies are nothing short of legendary!
