When looking over your auto insurance rates there are things you can do to reduce the amount you pay.
Here’s where we recommend starting, if you’re looking for a lower rate.
The first thing you can do is shop around. By looking at a variety of coverage options (within your state requirements of course) you will find a wide range of plans.
Where you live, what car you drive and who else is driving your car all play a role in what you are paying for car insurance.
How far you drive can affect coverage.
If you drive a small amount regularly there are discounts for low mileage. Maybe you are now working from home, not commuting might change things here.
If you are looking to purchase a new car, checking on rates before a purchase may affect your choice.
The style of car you purchase can affect premiums. Even the manufacturer has an effect.
Having an independent agent can really assist you with this task.
If you have the vehicles you intend to insure, you can look at increasing your deductible to reduce rates.
What about an older car? Can you reduce coverage here to save a bit? Your agent will be able to advise you of necessary coverage.
Ask the agent about bundling your coverage.
If your family has 2 vehicles and a home to cover, there may be a discount for bundling all coverage with one company.
Your credit record also plays a role in what you pay. Maintaining a great credit record will save you money on your insurance. An annual credit check up is advisable to correct any errors that can occur.
Check with your agent for other discounts like good driver, good student discounts, and certified courses in defensive driving.
It is a good idea to take both the regular cost of a company’s quote and any discounts into account. It’s not a great deal to have many discounts on an overpriced policy.
Additionally, there are group plans that may lower your cost. Check at work, social groups or check with your agent to see if these might be a possibility for you.
There are ways to lower your premiums. A combination of the tips above & reaching out to an agent may help you to reduce the amount you are currently paying each month.
